Department Admission and Retention
Acceptance into the bachelor degree program at Lancaster Bible College, with a specialization in Worship and Performing Arts, is consistent with the general admissions policy at the College.

Entering Students. Pre-admission to any of the departmental programs is available to all entering freshmen or transfer students. An audition and entrance interview will be conducted to determine program and course of study. 
Audition Requirements:

Voice:  Perform one art song, aria, or traditional song AND one musical theater or commercial song** with accompaniment.*
Piano, Organ, Orchestral Instruments, and Band Instruments:  Perform two contrasting selections for the instrument- at least one from the classical repertoire- with or without accompaniment.*
Worship Leaders:  Prepare a 10-12 minute worship set that demonstrates your abilities, variety, and spiritual heart for worship.
Composition:  All Music Composition majors will audition on their principal instrument (or voice) and submit scores and CD’s of at least two compositions that represent their best current work.  In addition, please submit a list of all compositions- with dates of composition and premieres (if applicable).
Classical Guitar:  Perform two contrasting selections for the instrument- at least one from the classical repertoire- with or without accompaniment.*
Commercial Guitar, Bass, and Drums:  Perform two contrasting commercial** selections for the instrument.  You must provide charts so a faculty member can accompany you.*

* Accompanists will be provided upon request or you may bring your own.  If you prefer, a CD player will also be available.
** Examples of commercial music styles include: country, gospel, jazz, rock, and blues.

Music Theory Placement Exam
Theory placement exams are given to Worship, Music Performance and Music Education students before registration for the purpose of assessing their written and aural skills in music theory.  Based on this assessment by the music department faculty, the student will be assigned to the corresponding music theory course in which he/she should be enrolled. 
Any student failing to obtain a minimum score on the Placement Exam, will be asked to complete the course Basic Fundamentals of Music, prior to starting the second semester of their first year and/or document further personal study that would justify repeating the Placement Exam. This course is available on-line or during Winterim.

Second Year.  Upon completion of 60 credits in any of the programs, the faculty will vote on the student’s formal acceptance into the specific program. 
The criteria for formal acceptance:

Music Education students, in addition to the above, must complete by the end of the second year:

            Math – 173
Reading – 172
Writing - 173

PARTICIPATION.  All departmental majors are expected to actively participate in a large ensemble
(a credited ensemble that rehearses at least two hours/week and performs outside of the classroom) or equivalent (see Dept. Chair) throughout their entire academic career.  Scholarship holders are particularly required to participate, without exception (see Scholarship requirements).

Graduation.  In order to graduate, the student must meet specific departmental and program expectations, in addition to completing the college credit requirements:

            Knowledge – 158 (prior to student teaching)

*If at any time, the student fails to meet the stated requirements, the student must drop his/her departmental program as stated in the registrar’s policies. 

*If credits are from another institution, the GPA must meet the same minimum requirements.

Disability Statement
Any student who has a disability which falls within ADA guidelines or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act who desires to use accommodations to accomplish the requirements of this course must first submit documentation to the Director of Disabilities Services in the Reaching Academic Potential (RAP) Center.

It is to your advantage to arrange a meeting as soon as possible, so that accommodations can be determined without undue delay.  After meeting with you and reviewing the documentation, the Director will determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations for this course and will inform the professor of this in writing.  After the professor receives the information, he/she will ask you to make an appointment with him/her, if needed, to discuss how the accommodations can best be delivered.

Therefore, academic dishonesty will not be tolerated in any way. Students are responsible to familiarize themselves with LBC's Academic Integrity Policy and adhere to it.
