The W&PA Department offers scholarships ranging from $500 to $3000 to majors and non-majors participating in the program. Scholarship auditions can be arranged with the W&PA office at 717.560.8218 or music@lbc.edu. If requested in advance, the Departmental Audition and Interview (see Apply-Department) can double as the scholarship audition.

Scholarships and Awards

 

Worship & Performing Arts DEPARTMENT Scholarship
(Majors Only)

A flat rate award is given to students enrolled as majors in the Worship & Performing Arts Department who excel in their specific program, setting a spiritual and artistic example in the use of their art form for ministry.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Enrolled in the Worship & Performing Arts Department.
  2. Demonstrated commitment to excel in spiritual and artistic expectations.
  3. Commitment to complete undergraduate studies at LBC.

STUDENT COMMITMENT:

  1. Support the mission, objectives and authority of the department and program.
  2. Complete all requirements of the specific program.
  3. Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and in good standing.
  4. Participate in a large ensemble (or equivalent) all semesters in which a scholarship is received.
  5. Maintain applied lessons relevant to the particular academic program.
  1. PROCEDURES:
  2. Complete a Financial Aid application form.
  3. Audition/interview with the W&PA Department Chairperson and department Program Coordinator for the student’s academic program.  If these positions are held by the same person, at least one other faculty member must be present for the audition/interview.
  4. Recommendations will be submitted to the Scholarship Committee by the W&PA Department Chairperson.
  5. Amounts of this award will be determined by the Scholarship Committee and the W&PA Department Chairperson.
  6. This scholarship is renewable for up to *four years based upon recommendation by the W&PA Department Chairperson and Program Coordinator to the Scholarship Committee provided the student maintains a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and is in good standing.

* The scholarship can be extended by one semester beyond the four year limit in the case of a program that has a four and one half year academic requirement, such as Music Education, Professional Counseling, etc....

APPROVAL:
Approved by the Scholarship and Student Aid Committee and the Executive Council
W&PA PERFORMANCE Scholarship
(Majors and Non-Majors)

A flat rate award is given to non-majors or W&PA minors who contribute significantly to the mission, objectives and programs of the Worship & Performing Arts Department, setting a spiritual and artistic example in the use of their art form for ministry while maintaining a standard of excellence in another program of study at LBC.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Invited by the Worship & Performing Arts Department to participate in department ensembles and activities.
  2. Demonstrated commitment to excel in spiritual and artistic expectations.
  3. Either a W&PA minor, or a non-major who contributes to the department in a specific area for which there is no qualified W&PA major.
  4. Commitment to complete undergraduate studies at LBC.

STUDENT COMMITMENT:

  1. Support the mission, objectives and authority of the department and program.
  2. Complete all requirements of the specific program (minors).
  3. Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and in good standing.
  4. Unequivocally recommended by the Chair of the department corresponding to the student’s major area of study.
  5. Participate in a large ensemble (or equivalent) all semesters in which the W&PA scholarship is received.
  6. Maintain applied lessons relevant to the art form for which the W&PA scholarship was granted.
  1. PROCEDURES:
  2. Complete a Financial Aid application form.
  3. Audition/interview with the W&PA Department Chairperson and director of the student’s intended large ensemble and/or applied lesson professor.  If these positions are held by the same person, at least one other faculty member must be present for the audition/interview.
  4. The W&PA department confers with the department corresponding to the student’s major in order to obtain a recommendation.
  5. Recommendations will then be submitted to the Scholarship Committee by the W&PA Department Chairperson.
  6. Amounts of this award will be determined by the Scholarship Committee and the W&PA Department Chairperson, never to exceed 75% of the largest DEPARTMENT scholarship given to a W&PA major.
  7. This scholarship is renewable for up to *four years based upon recommendation by the W&PA Department Chairperson and the Chair of the student’s declared major, to the Scholarship Committee provided the student maintains a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and is in good standing with both departments.

* The scholarship can be extended by one semester beyond the four year limit in the case of a program that has a four and one half year academic requirement, such as Music Education, Professional Counseling, etc....
APPROVAL:
Approved by the Scholarship and Student Aid Committee and the Executive Council

 


Grace Doan Bitler Organ Scholarship

A financial award of one year of organ lessons is given to students enrolled as majors in the Worship & Performing Arts Department who excel in the use of the organ as a ministry resource.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Enrolled in the Worship & Performing Arts Department.
  2. An organist with demonstrated interest in using said instrument for ministry purposes.
  3. Demonstrated commitment to excel in spiritual and artistic expectations.
  4. Commitment to complete undergraduate studies at LBC.

STUDENT COMMITMENT:

  1. Support the mission, objectives and authority of the department and program.
  2. Complete all requirements of the specific program.
  3. Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and in good standing.
  4. Participate in a ministry for which the organ serves as a resource tool.
  5. Maintain applied organ lessons.
  1. PROCEDURES:
  2. Complete a Financial Aid application form.
  3. Audition/interview with the Music Performance Program Coordinator and Organ Applied Instructor.  If these positions are held by the same person, at least one other faculty member must be present for the audition/interview.
  4. Recommendations will be submitted to the Scholarship Committee by the W&PA Department Chairperson.
  5. Amounts of this award will be determined by the Scholarship Committee and the W&PA Department Chairperson.
  6. This scholarship is renewable for up to *four years based upon recommendation by the W&PA Department Chairperson and Program Coordinator to the Scholarship Committee provided the student maintains a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and is in good standing.
